I teach the Chinese I wish someone had taught me to teach.
Eight years ago I stood in front of my first class of foreigners with a perfect lesson plan and watched it die in four minutes. Nobody wanted the grammar tree. They wanted to say something — today, badly, out loud.
Everything I do now starts there. My students speak from lesson one. My slides are built around activities, not bullet points. And the teachers who buy my materials get the decks that survived contact with real classrooms — including the timings, because a 50-minute plan that takes 80 minutes is a beautiful lie.
